Scratch Mat

Most people enter a building without cleaning their shoes, resulting in dirt all over the floor.
Could this nuisance be removed by making the activity fun to do? We think so.

Give parents some peace!

2009-12-15 18:20 - 0 Comments

Can we get children to clean their rooms by making it fun to do? By simply attaching strong, tiny magnets to t-shirts, the whole concept of tidying up is transformed. Instead of hanging and folding clothes, children can curl their clothes into a ball and throw them at the wall! Practically anything can cover the sheet metals, my preference is pink hands, but it can be pictures of unpopular celebrities, global warming or anything of that sort. Lets use that rebellious teen spirit to give parents some peace!

Gaming safety belt

2009-12-16 16:22 - 0 Comments

People in car or plane usually do not fasten the seat belts. It is not good for safety. Could we encourage people to fasten the safety belt by making it fun?
When people travel by car or a plane, they usually want to kill time by playing some games or listening to music. So we add these functions to the seat belt. Before you fasten your seat belt, you cannot play games or listen to music. Only after you fasten your safety belt correctly (buckle it) you can use the device on the buckle for those purposes.
This solution is intended for passengers that are allowed to be distracted during the travel so it does not jeopardize general safety (backseats of the car, airplane seats).

The Wiki Traffic Light

2009-10-27 12:38 - 0 Comments

It sometimes happens that people miss, ignore or forget a red light. This is often in the bigger cities and is probably caused by stress, lack of time or frustration. It’s pretty bad behaviour.
Can we get more drivers to respect a red light by making it fun to do?
By fitting the traffic light system with a screen that displays interesting or fun facts when the light is on red. It’s a simple way to give people something in return for doing the right thing.

Connect Four Beer Crate

2009-10-27 13:43 - 0 Comments

Millions of bottles of beer are consumed around the world every year. The bottles are often recycled, but what about the metal beer tops? An easy way to deal with this would be to create a way to recycle them.

One fun way would be to build a game of connect four into the side of the beer crate. The bottle tops can be used as the counters to the game, perhaps after some friends have finished the crate, and returned with the empty bottles. This is a pretty fun way to do something responsible with the bottle caps.

Fun Tram Tickets

2009-11-04 13:57 - 0 Comments

This is my idea to use positive reinforcement to encourage people to buy tickets when they travel on public transport. I think it's much more positive than the current approach of vilifying "fare evaders". Obviously in the future we need to encourage people to travel in sustainable ways as much as possible, and hopefully this idea could make it seem a bit more fun to do so!

Pinball Exercise Machine

2009-11-11 15:47 - 0 Comments

When people are waiting at the bus stop they sit down as if they were tired, even the young people. However everybody agrees they should do more excercise, but they don’t have time. So, let's use the wasted time waiting for the bus! We can mix a "Pinball Machine" and a "Step Machine". So, when you move your right foot, you move the right stick of the Pinball. And when you move your left foot, you move the left stick. We can install a Pinball exercise machine at the bus stop (in the place for advertising). So, it’s pinball exercise! Hit the ball, get points and have fun!

Rewarding Speed Limit Signs

2009-11-12 15:47 - 0 Comments

It's important to slow down in residential areas – children are playing and might run out in the street – and if you’re speeding you won’t have enough time to react. In the USA we have mobile radar detector/signs with large digital displays that warn drivers when they are speeding. But it's not very fun when you see this sign, or very fun to make the number decrease to the speed limit as you decelerate. You slow down out of fear of getting a ticket, not to make driving safer. It focuses on how bad you’ve been. Why not reward good behavior instead?

Could obeying the law be fun?
Why not use a high-end digital display for more interesting things like casinos do? Make hitting the speed limit as exciting as a spin on a slot machine. Make it something really positive. Instead of photographing speed offenders, photograph the license plates of the drivers that obey the law! If they drive the correct speed, their license plate is photographed and 3 wheels spin on the ...

Battery Pinball

2009-11-17 13:54 - 0 Comments

I always find it hard to find places to return my used batteries - and it's really boring to do it. So let's make it fun by placing the Battery Return game in supermarkets and malls! It's a pinball machine that uses batteries instead of coins. The gamer puts in his batteries and then plays a game. The more batteries, the higher chance to set a record score! The interior of the machine must be made of solid rubber and metal that doesn't break from the batteries bumbling into it.

Garbage Jukebox

2009-11-27 15:49 - 0 Comments

Portugal and Spain share more than common traditions and lifestyles. They share common problems. In both countries it is usual to get together with friends in weekend nights in selected city spots. Everyone seems to have a blast but they seem to forget to clean up after themselves, leaving a lot of empty plastic cups and bottles behind. So how can we make putting the empty bottles and plastic cups in their rightful place a fun thing? Nothing goes better with friends and party than music. What if the soundtrack of the party was dependent on their hability to clean up after themselves?

That's exactly what the "Garbage Jukebox" does! Every bottle equals 1 minute of music, and every plastic cup equals 1/2 minute. The time you gain on the Jukebox is cumulative, so, as long as everybody puts their empty bottles and cups in the Jukebox, the music never stops!
