Slide It Doormat

2009-12-15 20:34 - 0 Comments

People tend to pass doormats in public entrances without actively cleaning their shoes. This is a problem, especially in winter, since the shoes are more dirty during the rainy season. The aim was to motivate people opening slide doors with funny and unusual movements. Therefore we combined the unlock mechanism of a fruit labeled communication device with a doormat. Not only tech savvy pedestrians used the mat, but also average people adopted the unlock mechanism intuitively.

Fun fruit

2009-11-07 21:21 - 0 Comments

Can you get humans to eat healthier food through fun?
It’s always more fun to open colorful packages with loud writing, cool logos and slogans. How can a piece of fruit in the super market ever compete with a candy bar? It can’t! SO….
Imagine lush and colorful shrink-wrappers over bananas, apples and mandarin oranges. Put them right next to the candies, which in the USA are typically in the checkout line to entice last minute impulse buys by children. Guilt and fun I believe will

My proposal for the problem of abandoned and broken glass in public places of meeting is inspired to Bruno Munari's projected painting and at the same time to a popular game of our childhood: the kaleidoscope. So, throwing the glass bottles in a special container made of a "glass crusher" and of a suitable projector, we can create several compositions subsequently. A downright "open work" in continuous transformation thanks especially to the people - often young people - that won't be anymore "only" responsible citizens not polluting, but also active part and creators of pictorial works.

Karma Kalculator

Freecycling is a fantastic way to pay it forward and to keep unused clothes from becoming landfill. The Karma Kalculator makes donating used clothes fun. It dispenses a fortune cookie style fortune to "predict" the good that will coming to them for the good that they have done.

My idea for the project The Fun Theory is to solve the problem of cigarettes consumed and thrown away in parks (causing fires) or in the streets (increasing environmental pollution). I thought to encourage use of outdoor ashtray insert the typical sound of crackling wood that attracts attention and also an hologram on the surface of the ashtray. Depositing the cigarette the hologram reproduces the fire by creating fun and wonder. Submitted by Alessandra Pace.

Virtual Racing Simulation Sytem for Cars

2009-12-16 16:20 - 0 Comments

Imagine a car with a virtual racing simulation system built in it. Press a few buttons on the new simulation panel on the dashboard of your new VW, set up the track and opponents and opaque screens descend over the glass windows on which the simulation is projected or overlaid. With appropiate mechanisms under the seats the simulation will create even more realistic physical empact, transporting the driver into an adrenaline filled virtual world of speed and madness, preventing all the accidents and mayhem that the same would have caused in the real world. The new generation longs for speed.

The territory of a crossing

2009-11-19 14:18 - 0 Comments

Following the philosophy of the fun theory, I propose to remake contemporary crossings in such a way that everybody would like to use them for crossing the road. This crossing, however, can be replaced by another crossing. Imagine you are in the Amazon rainforest and in front of you is an abyss with a wild river at the bottom. One way to get to the other side is to cross a liana bridge just in front of you. You have no other way because there are crocodiles down there. Who of us is not an adventurer? Shopping cart display

Make shopping fun. Download from your smart mobile phone the shopping list into a display attached to your shopping cart. This will drive you through the store like a navigation system. Each time you pick up an article, this will be scanned by the display so it knows when you have completed your list. You also save time, don't need to get in line again, just pay and leave. You can choose from different movie themes so that your mission (shopping list) is like in the movies (finding treasures, rescuing people, saving the world). Submitted by Diego Santos.

Friendly bin

2009-12-16 18:24 - 0 Comments

Problem: in Romania a lot of people go to natural sites for picnic, with the entire family, but leave what's left on the spot instead of placing it in the garbage bins. So, the adults are too bored to care about the garbage. What about the kids?
The idea is to shape the garbage container in a way that attracts the kids: a cute colorful animal. This way, the curious little ones will ask about the big pink cute thing and the parents will explain it is for garbage, bringing it more into their attention.

Making Exercise Fun: Working Out vs Parkour

2009-11-19 11:35 - 0 Comments

Although most of us like to be physically active, most of us do not consistently exercise. Maybe that's because we don't enjoy exercising as much as other less physically demanding activities such as watching TV. Parkour is a training method founded by David Belle. It can be practiced anywhere – from urban settings, to playgrounds, to nature, and anywhere with obstacles man made or natural.

Would you rather bus?

2009-11-30 11:13 - 0 Comments

Public transportation reduces traffic as well as greenhouse gas emissions. So then, let's make them more FUN, with built in "Would You Rather" questions. Every minute or two, passengers will see a different question across the upper bus wall, asking them to choose which of two options "they would rather." They vote by pressing the red/blue button on their seat, and shortly after, a red or blue light above their seat will indicate their vote. All the votes will be tallied, with the final percentages lit up beside each of the two answer options.

Change the lights

A fun game to play at the traffic lights. You have to get to 20 points by pushing the right buttons in the right order. You can play against the clock or versus an opponent on the other side of the street. When you get enough points to win, the lights change to green so you can cross.

Tire-Swing Bus Stop

Waiting for the bus can be very stressful. First: the bus is never on time. Second: some bus stops don't have any place to sit down and wait. Thinking about that and a way to make it more fun, we came up with the idea of a "Tire-Swing Bus Stop".

Remember the little flipbooks you had when you were a kid? The kind you could flip through quickly and see a little movie, This might be the simplest way of animating a picture but a filmreel doesn't act all that different. Think of all the boring hours you have spent looking out of the window into nothingness while commuting on the Metro train or underground. Now, I am a big fan of grafitti and street art, but it doesn't really serve its purpose in 60 km/h when everything turns into a blur. What if we could use the speed of the train to emulate a lens travelling down a filmreel?

Problem:
Parking is a big problem for people especially in public spheres. Even it doesn’t seem as a big problem, it is really a big problem for drivers who can not find a parking area especially in big and crowded cities because of the other drivers who do not park in a regular way to the areas that are lined before. We tried to show this problem with some photos. As you see, in these photos, cars are not in a regular way and one car parks in a place where two car can park.

The Shopping Cart Return

Problem: Shopping carts are not being returned. Instead they are left scattered around the parking lot, often occupying a parking space and sometimes rolling in to vehicles causing damage while unsuspecting shoppers are off shopping.

The Red Light Player

2009-12-15 21:10 - 0 Comments

Waiting for the red man to change on the traffic light, while necessary for maintaining your life, is a bummer. Our aim was making the wait pleasurable. We did it by posting a highly competent street musician in one side of a heavily traveled zebra crossing. Our guy plays when the light is red, and rests when it turns green. For our special operation we made double bass covers for famous songs containing words like "stop", "stand", etc.
